Stuff about me...

A bit about my local area: I maintain this site on space provided by Shreve Net from the riverboat gambling mecca known as the Shreveport-Bossier metroplex. Many events are held here throughout the year, including April's Holiday In Dixie, September's Red River Revel, the State Fair of Louisiana, held for three weeks beginning at the end of October. Ice hockey fever has taken over here and the Champion Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs play to enthusiastic crowds at the CenturyTel Center whenever they're in town.

How long I've been online: I've been into computers and programming since 1983, and desktop publishing since 1994, but I've only been online since April 1997, and, in my opinion, actually on the Internet since February 1998, when I escaped the confines of Camp AOL. Once beyond the walls of fire, I discovered the World Wide Web. I now cruise a wide open super-highway, Mozilla Firefox by my side, resolution set to 1280x1024, fully able to enjoy the true, real Internet experience without being constantly detoured by road blocks, potholes, and speed traps.

Activities I enjoy when I'm not online: When I'm not online, I enjoy watching television, especially movies, the PGA Tour, and NBA games. I also enjoy reading, playing cards and Backgammon, working crosswords and logic puzzles, spending time with fun, friendly, intelligent people, walks in nice places, and traveling.

Silver Oak Cellars, my favorite

A few activities and things I enjoy most: Two of my passions are writing and cooking for people who love to eat. I love good food (Spanish, Italian, and Thai), good wine (a nice Cabernet.. Silver Oak, Clos du Bois, Kendall Jackson, Black Opal, J. Lohr), good music (70's, adult contemporary, blues, jazz, instrumental, Sinatra), and good company (someone as mellow, laid back, and casual as I am, who also loves and appreciates good food, wine, music, and conversation). On the rare occasion they all come together, I'm in nirvana.

A tiny bit about my nature: Being complexly simple, somewhat idealistic, and in awe of our universe, I appreciate the beauty in nature, people, art, music, film, and writing. I also appreciate and revel in the beautiful weather we have here in the south which allows us a multitude of activities, festivals, and events to explore and enjoy. I'm very much a homebody, so I would choose a long soak in a warm, fragrant, bubbly bath surrounded by deliciously scented candles, accompanied by a nice glass of Cabernet... or a stack of great movies to watch with a good friend, along with some Chinese take-out and a bottle, or two, of Chardonnay... or an evening of playing Spades or 42 with friends who enjoy the games as much as I do... over a noisy, smoky, crowded bar, any day.

My favorite...

...color: I have several actually, anything soothing, ocean blue, sea green, coral pink, and splashes of red and burgundy, especially the shades found in my favorite wines.

...flower: I love flowers that are especially fragrant, like the mini-bouquets of Tyler roses that are sold on corners around our area in season (I didn't discover these until I moved to Dallas and started buying them--about $3 a bouquet--for my desk at work). I enjoy colorful, mixed bouquets of any type, large bunches of white daisies, and roses, especially yellow and ivory, but they're all beautiful. I also think our state flower, the magnolia (pictured in the border), is very beautiful. In a perfect world, I'd have bouquets of fresh flowers in every room of my house all the time.

...song: My all-time favorite song is All These Things by Joe Stampley & The Uniques; I've loved it since I was 13 years old. I'm a sentimental romantic so love songs always get to me; I especially admire the love songs of Celine Dion, Luther Vandross, Jim Croce, Karen Carpenter, and Chicago. And I have to admit, the Chairman of the Board, any era of his music, always gets to me; I never tire of listening to my Frank Sinatra duets CD.

...singer: My favorite female vocalists are Tracy Chapman, Stevie Nicks, and Natalie Cole; favorite male vocalists are Van Morrison, James Taylor, and Tim Boatman. Others I enjoy: Basia, Mariah Carey, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Marc Cohn, Phil Collins, Jim Croce, Sheryl Crow, Elton John, John Lennon, Natalie Merchant, Anne Murray, Roy Orbison, and Elvis Presley, to name a few. Favorite groups: R.E.M., Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, Rush, Chicago, and The Carpenters, are at the top of the list. For links to great pages about all these artists and more, check out my music page.

...movie: It took me a while to narrow it down because I love so many movies, but when I really thought about it, it was no contest. The one movie that is my absolute favorite film of all time is the beautiful love story Somewhere In Time, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. For a list of my all-time favorite films, see my movie page, which contains a link to the official Somewhere In Time Fan Club, and over a hundred other links for favorite films including Ever After, Contact, Titanic, They Live, After Hours, Urban Cowboy, Jurassic Park, Multiplicity, Braveheart, and The Bridges of Madison County.

...book: This is another hard category to single out for me, but my favorite author is C.S. Lewis. I love everything he's done, especially Surprised By Joy, which I especially relate to. I feel very connected to Mr. Lewis; even Sir Anthony Hopkins' portrayal of him in the film Shadowlands had a familiarity to it. I've read and own a few of his biographies, and of course, most of his works, and we are quite alike in many ways, especially in our manner of thinking.
